Taking action project.

I can create something that teaches others about the Treaty of Waitangi / Gallipoli or NZ Parliament.

In this project I was working with Lauren and we decided to create Emaze new paper about Women's in WW1 role.

Te Reo, Term 4 2016.

This term we have been learning all about the Marae. We have learned that…….

• The Marae is an important focal point for the community.
• The Marea is a place where tradition and customs can be carried out.
• The Marae is a place where people can express their values with dignity.
• There are many kawa ( protocols) that prevail on the marae.
• Marae kawa (protocols) can differ between maraes and iwi.

We have focused on some key concepts when doing this learning.

These are listed and explained in the table below.

Tikanga	The way the do things like their custom.
Pōwhiri	Welcoming ceremony.
Tangata whenua	The people who have ancestors on the Marae, locals people.
Manuhiri	Visitors on the Marae.

Whanaungatanga	Your relationship with people or family.
Manaakitanga	Care and respect for elders and wishing well being for people.
Aroha	Means love, kindness, respect  and concern for others.

Something I would like to learn more about the marae is How it feels to be a Tangata whenua or manuhiri.

Parliament

This term we have been learning about Parliament. We have looked at the difference between government and parliament, NZ parliament, who is in government, how our government works and we compared democracy to dictatorship.

Three things that I learned are NZ parliament are:

• How limited dictatorship is and how lucky we are for being a democracy country.
• In parliament house people's roles and what they do.
• How many people sit in Parliament and where the partys sit.

Zainab, Alicia and Honor's Water filter.

I can take action to improve the water cycle in Canterbury

In this project I was working with Honor and Alicia and we decided to create a water filter.

In this project we decided that our success criteria were:

A good TV ad, water filter or Children’s Story needs...	Why is this important?
Needs to be able to produce drinkable water.	Because if the water is not clean bacteria spreads and people get sick.
Need to be strong.	So it doesn’t break and It can carry all the weight in it.
Needs to be long lasting.	So you don’t have to make new water filters all of the time.
Needs to have the right materials.	Because without the right materials the water filter wouldn’t work.
It needs to be able to work in different areas.	Because all water filters are built for different countries and areas.

Overall our project met/do not meet this criteria because...

Our project 1/2 met the criteria because it was strong, long lasting and has the right materials but it was not drinkable because the materials we used for example, charcoal, gravel and sand were not clean so the water would not come out clean and drinkable. Finally we haven't tried using it in different areas but we are not too sure if it would work because the water didn't come out clean on the first place.

For Visual Art the SOLO level I achieved was: Extended abstract because I could apply a range of watercolour paint techniques in a original art work.

The 3 Visual Art techniques I used in my art work to achieve this level were: Moving watercolours, glazing and shading.

My next step in visual art is: To use all three techniques a lot in my work and use them properly.

Koru games reflections

The activity I did was: Football girls.

Two Koru games highlights were:

1. Improving on different positions because I used to playing midfield and I had to do striker that I'm not that great at.

2. Competing with other team's because I'm used to competing with my team members and by now I know there strengths and weaknesses.

I'm proud of my team because of how we collaborated together and most of us didn't argue.

Advise :

•  Get along with your team so on the day you don't fight throughout a game.

Library - merit 8

On Thursday Alicia , Honor and I were on reading to children in the kakano area.
Alicia took 5 barbie books, Honor took a range of different books and I took spot the dog books.
At Start there were no children wanting to read or listen to books accept for one little girl that Honor read to after a few minutes we had about 3 to 5 children each , we even the children out into groups of 3 and then we read books to them one group wanted to read  barbie books and the two other groups didn't mind either spot the dog, barbie books and a few different range of books.

The learner quality I think I showed was resilient because we had no kids at the start and we kept trying to find children to read to. The care value I showed was Active Thinking and Respect because I Respected the children's choice of books and I used Active Thinking by making even groups of children.

Water Cycle Information report

Water cycle

The hydraulic process of the water cycle has 4 different stages: Evaporation, condensation , precipitation and Runoff/Groundwater. The water is recycled throughout the process ;There are 3 different states of water in the water cycle: Liquid, solid and gas. One thing is for sure there is no start or end of the water cycle.

Evaporation is when water is found in many different areas eg. Lake , Ocean, Sea,  Swamps and plants that form into small molecules.  Usually the evaporation occurs when the water reaches boiling point. For the matter of fact the water that evaporates from the sea is not salty because of the density of the salt which is too heavy to rise.The loss of density is called evaporation; which forms the molecules into vapor. After the water changes states into gas, dust in the air combines with the gas droplets to make clouds. ( condensation )

Condensation and Precipitation is when the vapor , droplets and dust in the sky combine and  changes into clouds that forms condensation.Then the clouds form precipitation which is hail, snow, rain, sleet etc. Once the precipitation falls the water that rolls down the mountain goes into two different area’s runoff and groundwater.

Runoff is when the water goes into the river and keeps the water cycle going. Groundwater is when the water gets infiltrated into the ground. Groundwater is another word for the water in your taps but don’t be mistaken, the water in wells and spring are called aquifer. When an aquifer becomes too full it starts to leak onto the surface (which is commonly known as spring.)

Overall there is 4 main points of the water cycle, evaporation, condensation, precipitation and runoff/groundwater. The three  main points of the water cycle is that the water gets recycled over and over and will never stop. Secondly there is three forms of water, liquid,gas and solid. Finally the water cycle has no end or start. Water is important for all living things and we all need to appreciate what we have.

The parts of speech because it was hard finding information and there was 7 parts we had to research about.

Something new I learnt was...

I learnt what a preposition is. A preposition is a word that describes the relation to an object.

Helping out around the school - Merit

Today Alicia and I helped out in the library.
Today Mrs Ward was away and Room 17 and 19 needed 2 librarians to issue and return there books.

Alicia and I went and issued there books There was a lot of books and a lot of children , so we worked hard to get the books issued and returned. Alicia and I helped a few children find books and helped the teachers settle down the children. Alicia and I were really friendly and kind toward the children especially when some children couldn't get books out because they had too many overdue.  After room 17 was done we were about to leave, but then room 19 came so we helped them out as well. Room 19 were a bit louder when the teacher was reading a book to them so we had to quiet them down and remind a few children to use their inside voices.

The learner disposition I showed was communicate because I communicated with all the children and Teachers with respect and ask them if they needed anything. I even communicated with the children when they needed help to find books.

Being a role model to junior students- Merit

Today I was being a role model to junior students at the junior cross country.
I cheered all of the students on when they were passing me. My job was being a marshal it was pretty fun. I showed all my care values. Community , Active thinking , Respect , Excellence by having a good behavior and trying to make people around me have a good behavior too.

There was a problem at the start of the cross country there was no marshal standing near the senior classes so one group of girls who were running went the wrong way so they had to redo their cross country.

I think I was being a role model  to junior students by cheering them on and showing them what direction to go.I think I showed resilient when children weren't coming first I cheered the on and told them to not give up
and when it started raining I showed resilient by not letting anyone give up because of the weather.

I think I am doing good because I have already achieved my bronze and I am aiming for my silver with a great start of 20 ticks.

How far away are you from reaching your BRONZE/SILVER?

I am pretty far because I have just achieved my bronze.

The area of CARE that I need to try harder in C / A / R / E

Because I have less ticks in excellence so far , And I didn't highlighted so much I my bronze for excellence.

To achieve my BRONZE/SILVER award quicker I need to use my care values more and be a role model.

The one thing that I can do to improve my progress in CARE is use more excellence value for example, Know your learning goals and work actively to achieve them.

I can apply my knowledge of adverbial clauses and connectives to see how ideas are linked in texts.

For reading I have been learning about adverbial clauses. I have found this learning fun and easy because I already knew the meaning of adverbial clause but I couldn't describe what it means. Now I know what adverbial clause is and how to describe it.

In this activity (link to adverbial clause activity), I had to change the meaning of a few sentences and add an adverbial clause to the end of it.

Over the past 7 weeks I have been learning to describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place

I can describe these characteristics in a piece of music

Harmony- Major harmony is like a happy song or a energetic song. Minor harmony is a slow or sad type of song.

Timbre- The bit of the song that makes it unique.

Melody-The bit of the song that gets stuck in your head for example, Chorus and bridge.

Rhythm- How the song changes from slow to fast.

Form- How the song is put together.
